WARREN, Ohio (WSPD) -- A corrections officer at the Trumbull Co Jail is safe after being taken hostage by three inmates.

The situation began around 3:30 Wednesday afternoon and ended around 8:30PM.

Officials say the three inmates jumped and handcuffed the corrections officer on the top floor of the jail, using his cell phone to call a Cleveland TV station.

After five hours of negotiations, the inmates were convinced to release their hostage after being promised they would be transferred to a different jail.

One of the inmates involved, David Martin, is awaiting trial on capital murder charges.

The Trumbull County Sheriff says that charges will be filed against the three after investigators have a chance to review surveillance tapes from the jail.
