TOLEDO, Ohio, May 9, 2014 – On Saturday, July 12, area golfers will hit the course at Bedford Hills Golf Club to spend the day enjoying one of their favorite hobbies and participating in a friendly competition. This morning, however, will have much more significance than a typical day on the greens because these golfers will be participating in the fourth annual “Thanks for the Mammories” golf outing organized by Oregon, OH native Melissa Cogar to benefit the Northwest Ohio Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Cogar, who is the Operations and Volunteer Manager at the organization, says “Every day, I see firsthand the difference that Susan G. Komen makes in our community and have the honor of supporting local women and their families who are fighting this disease. I wanted to do something on my personal time to fundraise for Komen Northwest Ohio and to do even more to fight for a cure.”
Cogar goes on to say that “From a personal standpoint, I cheered when my mother – who does not have health insurance – was able to get her very first mammogram at age 56 thanks to a free mammogram day at Bay Park Community Hospital funded by the Northwest Ohio Affiliate of Susan G Komen for the Cure. When her results came back abnormal, all of her additional follow-up visits and tests were covered by the organization. She had a benign cyst, thank goodness. Our local affiliate makes sure that women have access to a potentially lifesaving service despite financial obstacles.”
The fourth annual “Thanks for the Mammories” Golf Outing will include 18 holes of golf with cart, range balls, skins, a 50/50 raffle, prizes and more! The cost is $300/team or $75/individual (if paid by 6/1/14; cost goes up by $10/golfer thereafter) and there will be a men and a women’s category. Registration starts at 7 am with a shotgun start at 8 am. Lunch and a silent auction will follow, and golfers will have the chance to win prizes and bid on items like a trip to Orlando, autographed sports memorabilia and sports tickets (including University of Toledo football tickets), a one night stay and golf at Maumee Bay State Park and more.
This year, even non-golfers are invited to participate and help end breast cancer forever by enjoying 18 or 36 holes of Putt Putt at 10 am. The cost is $25 and includes lunch afterwards with the golfers. Children are welcome.
