Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Is A Mother’s Day Weekend Tradition at Levis Commons

PERRYSBURG, OH (April 16, 2014) – An estimated 6,000 Northwest Ohio residents will join together at The Town Center at Levis Commons on Saturday, May 10, 2014 for the American Cancer Society’s annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event. The non-competitive 5K walk unites the community in an effort to celebrate breast cancer survivors, educate people about how to reduce their breast cancer risk, and to raise funds for research and treatment.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer has raised over $450 million nationally with 8 million walkers across the country. 2014 marks the 8th Annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer (MSABC) event in Northwest Ohio which has raised just over $500,000 since its inaugural year. The 2014 goal for MSABC is to raise $126,000 locally to support the ACS mission to save lives by helping people stay well, helping people get well, by finding cures and fighting back against breast cancer.

Sponsors of this year’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Northwest Ohio event include: The University of Toledo Medical Center, Kroger, Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, Citizen Advisory Group, The Town Center at Levis Commons, Welch Publishing, 13 ABC, 101.5 The River and 92.5 Kiss FM.

Participants will enjoy a wide range of entertainment and activities as they walk the 3.1 mile route through Levis Commons. From performances by the Perrysburg High School Marching Band and the Perrysburg Twirling Sophisticates to face painting and strolling mascots, there will be plenty of fun for walkers of all ages.
Additionally, many Levis Commons businesses offer discounts and incentives for registered walkers to take advantage of following the walk. For example, C Sterling Jewelers will be hosting a raffle giveaway the morning of the walk. Registered walkers are encouraged to visit the C Sterling booth and enter to win a Pandora Bracelet valued at over $900!

Celebrating survivors is a key component in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event; with a special emphasis on showing support for those who have been victorious in their fight against breast cancer. Breast Cancer Survivors are invited to a “Survivor Tent” at the walk where they receive an honorary recognition item
and are pampered with free chair massages and hair wrapping. Survivors are also encouraged to participate in a “Survivor Strut” which takes place on the main stage immediately prior to the start of the walk. New for 2014 is a survivor pancake breakfast at Bar Louie from 7:30 – 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 10. For just $10 per person and FREE for survivors, event participants are invited to fill up with a classic breakfast and plenty of fun at the Bar Louie survivor breakfast.
