I may be done with my chemo...but I still get to go to the Hickman Cancer Center every 3 to 6 weeks...so a nurse can flush my port. And my port is the easy entry way into my bloodstream without me having to be poked and prodded while searching for a vein. For 2 more years I have to keep this little reminder of where my chemo was injected. But honestly, I don't really think about it much. It doesn't bother me or get in the way of anything. In fact, it made me laugh when I looked at it recently...the scar where it was surgically inserted used to run directly across the middle of the port. But now, 6 months later...the port is well below the scar...meaning, like everything else on my body...even my port has sagged a bit. Really? Can't anything stay where it is supposed to? Or must everything droop after a certain age? I already know the answer to that question!
