This weekend's expected heat wave already is having an effect on holiday events. Swanton village officials have decided to postpone that community's annual July 4th fireworks display Saturday evening, citing safety reasons. The Springfield Township Freedom Celebration is also canceled Saturday, because of a projected heat index near 110 degrees. There's no new date announced yet for either event.
