Ohio Gubernatorial Candidates Pick Up New Endorsements

TROY/CLEVELAND, Ohio - Two candidates running to become Ohio's next governor each picked up a big endorsement Thursday.

Attorney General and Republican candidate Mike DeWine received the endorsement of former Pennsylvania Senator and Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum. Speaking to Miami County Republicans in Troy on Thursday morning, Santorum called DeWine someone who will fight for Ohioans.

"Ohio needs someone with conviction and someone they can trust. And I can tell you Mike DeWine is a strong conservative and someone we can trust. Whether it is protecting the rights of the unborn, fighting the opiate epidemic or creating jobs, Ohio Republicans can count on Mike DeWine to deliver," said Santorum. "I am proud to call Mike DeWine my friend and I can't wait to call him Governor DeWine."

Democratic candidate Betty Sutton also picked up a Congressional endorsement. The former Representative from Ohio's 13th District received the support of Representative Marcia Fudge. At an event in Cleveland, Fudge touted Sutton's accomplishments during her time in Congress.

“I have worked with Betty Sutton up close, I’ve seen her fight for working people and I’ve seen her deliver.  She has an impressive record of accomplishment at the state and local level, in the Congress and in the Obama Administration.  She is without question the best person to be Ohio’s next governor — and she has my enthusiastic endorsement,” said Fudge.
