Homeless Shelter Facing Cuts Without Funding

(Toledo, OH)  Cuts are possible at a Toledo homeless shelter amid a dispute over federal funding.

Family House officials say the city has been slow to give them $120,000 in grants they were awarded to operate.  Shelter leaders also say city officials have not helped them through a new application process.

The Department of Neighborhoods says the grant money arrived late, delaying payouts to Family House and other agencies. Family House is the city's largest shelter, mostly for single moms with young children.

Of the 677 people served last year, about 60 percent were kids, with families staying an average of about 40 days at the shelter.
