President Trump Slaps Tariffs on Washing Machines

(Washington, D.C.) President Trump made a move to protect Northwest Ohio jobs, by slapping steep fees on imported washing machines.

The global trade-related move announced Monday will help Whirlpool, one of the region’s biggest employers—and its plant in Clyde, the largest maker of large residential washing machines in the U.S. 3,000 people work at the Whirlpool factory there.

But foreign competitors like Samsung complain the import tariffs will only drive up consumer prices across the board.

Both of Ohio's senators pushed the president to make the move to protect American jobs.
