(Toledo, OH) Toledo City Council is set to approve a consent decree with the state and federal EPA over pollution in the Ottawa River.
The court settlement calls for city leaders to pay both agencies more than $800,000 in damages and restoration costs for remediation of the river.
The lawsuit relates to old chemical contamination in the river which led to fishkills and the disappearance of other wildlife over decades.
Toledo also would convey 22 acres to the Metroparks for development of the Manhattan Marsh in North Toledo and another 58 acres of wetland next to the Cedar Point National Wildlife Refuge in Ottawa County.
