Lead Safe Law Changes to Be Considered

(Toledo, OH) With Toledo's lead-safe law in limbo, expect some changes.

The first of those amendments to the existing law could come at today's Toledo City Council meeting. City attorneys are asking for adjustments to definitions in the current law to clarify some legal questions.

But one city councilman wants to simplify the lead paint inspections to improve compliance from landlords. A lead swipe test would be replaced with a cheaper and simpler visual inspection, then the wipe test used if there's a need.

A judge issued a temporary restraining order on enforcement of the law, sparing hundreds of landlords from facing fines for not meeting a June 30th deadline by public health inspectors. Landlords and city attorneys will argue the merits of the law before that same judge later this summer.
