Fulton Co. Loses $1 Million to ECOT Scandal

(Wauseon, OH) The ECOT controversy even costs rural public school districts in Northwest Ohio.

The superintendents of the seven Fulton County schools say their districts lost more than one million dollars combined to the ECOT controversy with the state department of education.

Innovation Ohio released a report earlier this month that showed ECOT collected nearly 699 million dollars from all but six of the state's school districts, including 87 million dollars scheduled to be paid this year. Wauseon was hit the hardest in the county, despite having its own certified virtual academy.

ECOT closed in January, after accusations the online charter school overinflated its enrollment and how long kids were online. The Delta superintendent says ECOT should pay back the school districts.
