Northwood PD Turns to YouTube for Rail Crossing

(Northwood, OH) Northwood police come up with a unique solution to a recurring railroad traffic snarl.

Dispatchers at Northwood PD are getting tired of taking calls from stranded drivers stuck at the train tracks-- sometimes for as long as three hours along Wales Road.

So the police department is letting drivers know when a train is blocking their route to work, school, or errands-- by starting a YouTube channel that shows drivers what's happening along at the railroad tracks in real time. The live stream has helped cut down on all those calls. So have poles installed with blue lights at multiple intersections that go off when a train is approaching.

Traffic can then see well in advance, so drivers can reroute and avoid getting trapped. The high-tech solutions seem to be helping Northwood commuters so far.
