BG to Host Tractor Pulling Championships

(Bowling Green, OH) A lot smoke and steam is in store this weekend in Bowling Green.

The 52nd annual National Tractor Pulling Championships hits the Wood County Fairgrounds starting today. The weekend-long event is known as the largest tractor pulls in the nation, drawing 60,000 people on 2,000 campgrounds to BG.

For the first-time visitor, the pulls involve a heavy tractor pulling a sled along a 330-foot dirt track to see who can pull a load the farthest. The first-place finishers in each of 13 categories are awarded rings.

Visitors will see the tractor pulls from a new angle this year-- additional seating was installed at a cost of $700,000. Some of the pullers are pros, others do it to raise money for charities such as the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
