Nurses Return to Work At Mercy Health St. Vincent's

TOLEDO, Ohio - Striking nurses returned to work Thursday at St. Vincent Medical Center.

WTOL 11 reports the nurses were called back to work a day after a tentative agreement was reached between the UAW and Mercy Health. However, according to local union representatives, the issues that caused the strike initially have not yet been resolved. The nurse had walked off the job over on-call hours and health care.

In a video posted on Facebook this afternoon, UAW Local 2B Director Rich Rankin said the union had decided to end the strike because Mercy had told them they were going to permanently replace the striking nurses if there was no deal reached by tomorrow afternoon.

Rankin says the union is setting up informational meetings on Friday and Saturday and voting times will then be set up to allow nurses to decide on the new contract.
