Monroe Police Identify Suspect In Officer-Involved Shooting

MONROE, Michigan - Police have identified a suspect who shot two Monroe city police officers.

WTOL reports 40 year-old Simba Lion is in critical condition at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center and is suffering from life-threatening injuries after officers returned fire.

According to police, Lion was served with an eviction notice from his apartment the day before the shooting. On Tuesday, Lion got into an argument with a maintenance worker at his apartment that turned physical. The worker called police after reporting seeing a gun on the suspect's hip.

When officers arrived on scene, they attempted to make contact with the suspect when they were fired upon. Two officers were struck and hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. They were treated and released. MSP has not released the names of the officers who were injured.
