Mornings are incomplete without a steaming cup of coffee.

That goes for the majority of Americans. In fact, the National Coffee Association determined that “62 percent of Americans drink coffee every day, with the average coffee drinker consuming 3 cups daily,” WalletHub pointed out. Coffee’s popularity has only increased since the pandemic, and with National Coffee Day around the corner (on Wednesday, September 29), WalletHub ranked the best cities for coffee lovers.

Four cities in Ohio made the nationwide list.

WalletHub reports:

“What gave way to java culture? Science, for one, has convinced us that caffeine possesses multiple health benefits besides mental stimulation. At the right dosages, caffeine may contribute to longevity. Perhaps just as important, though, is coffee’s social purpose. Today, coffee stations are a staple of the workplace, and tens of thousands of shops serve as meeting places for friends, dates and coworkers. Many of those shops have only recently allowed sit-in customers again, though, after switching to only take-out during the pandemic.”

The WalletHub team compared the 100 largest cities in the U.S. to determine which ones are the best coffee cities. The rankings were determined using “12 key indicators of coffee lover-friendliness,” including coffee shops per capita, the average price per pack of coffee and more.

So, which cities stood out in Ohio? Here are the cities, and how they rank:

  • No. 29: Cincinnati
  • No. 82: Cleveland
  • No. 83: Columbus
  • No. 99: Toledo

To make sure you celebrate accordingly, WalletHub also mapped out the best freebies and specials to take advantage of National Coffee Day. Find the deals here.
