Mayor Proposes Increasing Toledo's Income Tax To Fix Streets

TOLEDO, Ohio - Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz announced Wednesday a proposal to raise the city's income tax to help fund street repairs.

WTOL 11 reports that the Mayor's proposal would raise the city's temporary income tax by 0.5%, a move that is expected to raise about $40 million for road repairs. The plan also removes the city's ability to transfer money from the capital improvement fund to the general fund.

The Mayor's office says they plan to put the proposal before voters on the March 2020 ballot. A similar measure was defeated in March 2016. That levy would have raised the city's income tax to 1%.
