Demi Lovato Helps Launch Coronavirus-Related Mental Health Fund

Demi Lovato has turned her attention to the people suffering from mental health issues amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Monday (April 20), the pop star, 27, took to social media to announce the launch of The Mental Health Fund, a global initiative aiming to raise $5 million through its GoFundMe to support the Crisis Text Line in the United States, as well as similar 24/7 crisis counseling organizations in places like Ireland, Canada and the United Kingdom. At time of press, more than $2 million had been raised for the campaign.

"So many have been left alone with their thoughts, their anxieties, their abusers – and are struggling with the uncertainty of these times," Lovato wrote in a new Instagram post. "That is why I am helping to launch #TheMentalHealthFund to support organizations who are meeting the increased demand in crisis counseling due to COVID-19. You are not alone. Help is fast, free and available 24/7."

To meet the increasing demand of those in need of mental health services, organizations like Crisis Text Line, Shout UK, Kids Help Phone, and SpunOut.ie have all also come together to work with The Mental Health Fund. As per the fund, anxiety remains the biggest issue for people amid the coronavirus crisis, with 78 percent of conversation covering the worry over financial stress.
