Lucy Humphrey had been living with lupus for over a decade when her kidneys started to fail in 2019 and she learned she needed a transplant to survive.
In 2021 during a trip to a beach near her home in Wales, Lucy met Katie James. They hit it off and while talking Lucy shared that she was waiting on a life-saving kidney. Coincidently, Katie had just signed up to be a living kidney donor.
The women exchanged numbers and contacted a donor coordinator the next day. Tests revealed that they were a perfect match, a one-in-22-million chance. In October of last year, they underwent a successful kidney transplant surgery.
